About Me

I originally trained as a music teacher, graduating from the Cambridge Institute of Education in 1975 - a very long time ago! I graduated again in 1985, this time from the University of Warwick with a degree in the education of children with special educational needs.
I have taught in mainstream and special schools, including a pupil referal unit, a school for pupils with severe learning difficulties and a residential school and children's home for young people with severe social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
I have been a class teacher; a Support Teacher working with students, schools and families; the Teacher-in-Charge of an education unit; and Head Teacher of a residential special school. I have also been Deputy Director of a Therapeutic Community and Business Manager of a company providing care, support and education for young people with challenging behaviour.

I came to Alderman Blaxill School in January 2009 and fell in love with the place; such amazing kids and a great supportive staff group.

On a personal note I live in Frinton on Sea and am married to Sue, who is a Nursery Nurse in the Neo-Natal Unit (or SCBU) at Colchester General Hospital. We have three children: Daniel, BEng (Hons) in Internet Ennginering, who is 29 and a senior software engineer: Nicholas, BA (Hons) in Interactive and Screen Based Graphics, who is 26 and manager of a shop; and Katie who is 18 and studying A levels in Psychology, Photography and Textiles.
